Being able to be happy and have a purpose in life largely depends on whether a person can maximize one’s capabilities, and this requires not only the appropriate opportunities, but also personal drive or spirit. At SHOEI, we are fond of the word “spirit.” We certainly do not think this word is outdated or obsolete, and hope that you will not overlook the strong sense of will and passion encapsulated by this word. Perhaps this word could be summarized as “vitality” or “motivation.” In any case, discovering “spirit” is a personal problem, and not something that can be given to us. SHOEI would like to continue providing endless “opportunities” whatever the situation at hand. SHOEI recruits are expected to maximize their imagination and spirit to make full use of these opportunities. The future will not be born from objects. It will be born from the spirit and intelligence of mankind. It is often said that “corporations are defined by their employees,” but when thinking about the definition of a talented employee, it is difficult to come up with it. SHOEI believes in hiring talent to whom we can sense feelings of inferiority and discomfort. People experience feelings of inferiority or discomfort through contact with others who have something they do not, or who have something better. For this reason, we are seeking talent who possess potential in the form of knowledge to deal with this imperfection. Just as “necessity is the mother of invention,” it is not easy times that cultivate knowledge, but a sense of urgency and crisis about the future.
